There's a good reason to be on an Evo. Ride through the desert next to a Twinkie and I'll bet the oil in the Evo is at least 50 degrees cooler than the oil in the TC. Same with the inside of the rider's legs.

Puddle of oil (in original story)? Could be cut oil hose, broken fitting or simply a lost plug. Could happen to any bike.
Mind you though, you are on Evo lovers thread, but all of them could JUSTIFY why they ride namely Evo's, whereas most of twinkie owners can't (I believe).

I have been riding northern Mexico for about the last five months being that I live in Torreon, I can tell you that in and around the city there are some places you do not go, but out in the middle of no-where, the people you will meet are very nice and friendly. I have seen three or four MC clubs here, all of which have either passed me and I have given a small wave to at the gas pump, a small wave was given back and that was that..

I started mine yesterday and paid close attention to the "wet" area at the base gasket. While she was cold, a drop of oil came oozing out. After she warmed up, I wiped the wet oil away and no more drops, but she does "leave a 2-drop mark" when I park her.
She has synthetic oil in her.

I've been riding my Evo for 18 years and 168,000 miles. Sure, I've had trouble with it- nothing made by the hand and mind of man is perfect, but it has ALWAYS taken me there, and brought me home again. The rare time it quit or wouldn't start, I've always been able to fix it on the side of the road and get going again.
The only oil seepage is a bit of dampness around the stator plug in the primary, and that's only when the engine is cold.

TimmyB Yeah, but I always think about the area just north of Albuquerque where it feels like your on Mars or something. We stopped at some gas station/diner that was done up like the 50's not real far from the Colorado border. Had some out of this world breakfast buritos too, at this Mexican dive before we left the city.

crazy thinking
I remember one year traveling ( in our van) in northern New Mexico, way out in no-mans-land. We stopped at a little gas station and there was this biker gang all sitting around one of it's comrad's bikes. There was this huge puddle of oil under it and it was hot as hell outside. Fast forward to next month, when I am planning to ride 2k miles of route 66 from Chicago to the Grand Canyon, and through the desert of New Mexico (flashback). I am currently bikeless, but was thinking about pulling the trigger on an evo, which is what I would be riding. The recent thread about oil leaks, crappy seals, etc. is sending me back into twinkieville. I am currently bikeless, so I think the evo will be on hold until I can afford it as a "second" bike.
Don't judge Evos on one freaking oil leaking bike from a biker gang's bike...which you know nothing about the cause.
Please buy your Evo and don't be scared straight! He probably hit a road hazard and cracked his case, which spilled his oil, which happens all the time.
Take it from us, the Evos are OKAY. I rode them for many miles and no leaks. Now my shovel was a different story, but dam it I loved it anyway. Go buy the Evo or TC, which ever you fall for, but don't worry about the Evo.
