Nicely said. It's pretty much how I feel, I just don't have many Harley friends left to BS with about stuff like this.
I just loved everything about the 98 glide and '10 is so refined it feels like my fathers honda.

And I am a little older (45) so I've got the nostalgia thing going.

I'm probably doing it first and foremost because I want to love my motorcycle again and not just ride it.

Thank you for the input.

i just gave up my 1989 FLHTCU for a 2007 FLHTC. figured it was time. it doesn't fit me as well yet. i have to change the seat and windshield and get sitting like i used to on my 1989. i can tell you, i do not feel as connected with the new bike. it doesn't seem to be as mechanical either. i really like the 1989. i think i just have to get this one fitting me a bit more and then i will see what happens. i only have about 3-400 miles on this one so far and just finished a 2600 mile trip on the '89 so that could be why it feels strange. i personally liked the 5 spd that i had. it would be nice if the '07 had the same gear ratios for 1-5 and then just an over-ride for 6th.

My 1999 fxstc fits me like a glove. Nothing against newer models, but for me its all I could ever want . Easy to work on and a lot of information available to do most of the repairs or upgrades.

Punster, Give it some time and enjoy your Harley. I have been on Harleys since 70's and many miles on Evos. I was a die hard Evo guy and bought a new EG so I could have ABS and discovered I love this new SOB. I would say It's the best dam bike yet...............a course after getting rid of cats, etc.
BTW the brakes have saved me twice in 8K miles!...FedX delivery truck last week...I stopped at her door looking up at her.....normal brakes I would have been on her lap......Love these brakes!

On subject.
A guy I know prefers his TC to my "antiquated" Evo. Well, he's selling his machine. Can't say that he's buying an Evo, but I have some suspicions...
Here's his scoot. Now tell me that it wouldn't have been cooler with a different powerplant.

Punster, i know exactly what you mean. After riding a TC for 5 years now, I am also considering to sell it and buy an EVO again...

And before anyone counters me: no, i did not have the same feeling when the EVO replaced the shovel... so i don't think it has something to do with new and old... the ride on my EFI 96ci TC is just not as much satisfying for me as my 80ci EVO did...

I love my Evo, but must admit it has had several new heads and handles. Until recently it shared garage space with a Dyna TC88, which was fine, with greatly reduced gearing. I even got to love it! Sorry about that.

Garage EFI pardners are a SuperLow in bone stock tune, which is just great, if a bit cramped, plus Buttercup, an iddy biddy 1200cc Firebolt. Only mod is a twin outlet stainless muffler. I challenge anyone to come back from a ride on that and stop grinning! The flow of torque really is quite something.

Modern bikes are just fine, but my Evo is the one we both go out on.....

Great topic. I've hot a 94 evo. Put in a revtec 6 speed with a true overdrive. Couldn't afford the Baker. Huge difference from the 5 speed. V&H 2 " pipes. Wiseco 10.1 pistons. Aluminum pushrods. New lifters. New cam. Re-jetted the carb. Shotgun air ride Bike runs great. An absolute joy to ride. Little vibration. Will smoke a stock TC. Idle "lopes"just right. Sounds incredible. Paid just over 5 grand for it, and did almost all the work myself. I'm not bragging, but I AM saying that you just can't duplicate this experience with a new twin cam. At least not for the price, and with limited mechanical skills and tools. Plus, by being able to work on my bike, I know it intimately, from the torque setting at the rear axle to how the carb works.

Agree with Jethro. We have similiar mods to our evos.

Grab an Evo, get a builder to do the top end, and assemble yourself. You will appreciate the bike even MORE when its done. With exhaust and some other stuff, you can do all for less than 2,500, easy.

I can smoke any TC, with my RKC...its a sleeper ;-)

I think its going too far to say you would rather ride a metric than a twin cam. Victories aren't bad but they aren't harleys. I really like my evo softail and all the benefits of being cheaper, more dependable and easier to work on, but my girlfriends 03 heritage efi 1550 rides smoother, vibrates less, is real torquey, and is a nice bike all around. The efi is convenient on start up but doesn't sound as nice idling, but thats not a fault of the tc engine. I'm not trying to say the tc engine is better, but its not bad. Be glad that everyone doesn't love the evo bikes best, it would make them too expensive!
