Default 2010 vs 1998

Hello all - I had a 1998 flhtcui, my favorite bike of all time. I sold it several years ago and always regretted it. I am recently back on a Harley, a 2010 flhtc but just do not love the bike (at least not yet). I was thinking of going back to an old EVO, but think maybe after riding the Bigger engine, 6 speed etc, i may not like the old bike as much as I did.

I know it's all personal preference, but thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone has a comment or similar experience. I'd have to sell mine, buy and older bike - then undo it if I wasn't happy, which means lots of $.

I recently rode a 06 FLSTC with the 6 speed. I wasn't impressed.

Go back to the EVO you will be happier.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, even though I practically stole my EG from the previous owner, I was prepared to pay considerably more for a newer TC, but just couldn't feel it the way I did when I rode an Evo bike.

two different beasts.
You have a smooth, modern riding machine that needs a good tech to work on.
If you are a bit older, like many of us here are, you probably prefer bikes to behave and sound the way you remember it.
An Evo is a less refined, breathing workhorse that you can work on. I'm just glad that they made them as long as they did. Because today it would be plain illegal.
To top it off you can get a clean late 90's machine for $5k... Pinch me!

Sold my 2006 FLST because it was boring to me. Not that it was a bad bike but I just did not like it. Got my 97 FXSTC and had to fix some things and make it mine and now I love this bike and have been on plenty of long rides. Never loved the 06 model.

If all that was available were twin cams I would be riding a Vic or a jap bike and I HATE jap bikes. My bros TC just lost a cam bearing at 23,000 miles. He had already put in tensioners at 13,000, and they were wore out again. Now he has a grand tied up in parts. My mildly worked over EVO smokes him any day of the week.
Oh, on edit: His wasnt running quite up to par so he down loaded a new program on his computer and his freaking turn signals quit canceling. Who needs that ****?

Not to hijack the thread, but if your brother would have replaced them tensioners with a gear drive, he'd still be riding that bike.

Just a few points: First: A lot of guys enjoy classics......if it's a car, might be a 66 mustang, or Olds 442. Forking a cherry 97 or 98 Harley with that EVO purring underneith you rewards a fella with that special feeling. Second: Many argue that as motors go, the Evo's, and espically those produced in the later years, as the best and most dependable power plants Harley ever produced. Third: A older bike is cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure therefore more obtainable.

My 80 is milled, camed and outfitted with screamin' eagle air filter and pipes....it runs like a bat ouuta hell, and sounds exactly like a Harley should. I don't have the slightest urge to strap myself down with a $20,000 + payment for some newer, highly technical version of what already lights my fire.

Nope, go ahead and keep your 103 and extra gear. Thank you very much.
