Default custom chrome piston install

Hey, guys.
I am ready to install my new custom chrome cast evo pistons. Looking at the inside of the pistons, there is a red dot above one side on the wrist pin boss. on the other side there is a bit of reinforcement above the wrist pin boss. When looking at the piston from the side, the machined area around the wrist pin hole is about an eighth inch difference left to right. The tech at jp cycles said the sides with less machined area go towards each other when installed. That would put the red dots on opposite sides of the engine. I told the tech that, and he said it sounds wierd, but its the way it should be. That doesnt make sense to me. Anyone have any input on this? I was shooting to get the top end installed tonight, but I want to do it right. Thanks!

Were there no installation instructions with pistons? It probably does make sense what the tech said because the inlet valves on the heads are in the inside of the V, so if the pistons are identical then they should be installed opposite way round to each other so the inlet valve cut outs face the middle.

Thanks for the quick reply! Your view, and the jp tech's view make sense now that I think about it. The instructions with the new pistons are pretty bad. It does not mention anything about installing at all. I was kinda shocked they wouldnt have some kind of instructions on which way they would go in if it was important.

Wow... that sucks. When I received my Wiseco pistons and rings, the instructions were AWESOME. And, you definitely needed to read them, because they had different procedures than what were "intuitive" from years of piston installation.

taiwanese!! lol. It just says: Refer to applicable Harley-Davidson service manual for proper installation methods. The harley stuff has arrows right on the top of the pistons. The manual says point both arrows to the front. If the new pistons only had arrows.....I will see if I can call around tomorrow and confirm.

Ok. I dug the stock pistons out of the garbage and pointed both arrows forward like the service manual says. There is a difference in the machined area on either side of the wrist pin. The bigger area is on the front side on both pistons. Which makes sense, because they can be put in either cylinder. The new pistons also are offset in the same area. If Harley did it that way, I guess I should, too. That is prolly why both dots inside the new pistons will be on the same side of the motor. They have to be there for a reason....

Double check the valve cut outs if there are any, if one is bigger than the other on each piston it is the inlet and they MUST face the middle of the V.....just saying as what H-D do might not be what CC have done.

That's Custom Chrome for ya. I swear I'm gonna quit buying RevTech products even if it kills me.
Their products are great and beautiful and all, but their customer service is non-existent, literally. Any type of kit is usually missing parts, and their instruction sheets leave much to be desired.
