Default Primary drain plug

Anyone got any ideas on how to keep this damn thing from leaking. It has been leaking for some time now and i have tried about everything i can think of and it still wants to mark it's territory. I just had the cover off when i installed the new stator, checked to make sure there was no cracks around the hole. I have tried Teflon tape, pipe dope, teflon tape and pipe dope together, have tried a new plug, and the damn thing still drips. Any ideas other than welding the hole shut. By the way it's on my 96' Heritage and it's the drain plug for the primary case. Thanks, Bully

Best thing I have ever found, even works on worn out, damaged threads up to a degree. No problem with removal, it is a sealer, not locker. Local bearing suppliers should have this in stock:http://www.rshughes.com/products/079340_54505.html

I put a smear of Hylomar on the threads when I install the plug.

It might not the plug leaking, may be seals. When leaking they drip down to the lowest point on the outer primary - the plug. Always looks like a plug leak though. Just went though this.

Thanks for the replys. I'm going to try one of the sealants mentioned tomorrow. I know it's the plug and not the case leaking, have confirmed that. Am going to drain the primary again, i have a different syle plug, a whole roll of teflon tape, a will get some 545 loctite and try again.

Don't use teflon tape with 545, just put a drop of it on a clean plug and snug it up. The stuff expands when air is removed. I have used 545 to seal a worn out fuel line fitting on a Quadrajet, and a tapered pipe plug is way easier. My FXLR had a leaky plug on it and I just wipe it off and put a drop on it every time it goes back in. My '92 heads have a 1/2-13 to 5/16-18 reducer for the S&S carb and that's what I used to stop it from weeping.
It is "non-fouling" and you don't have to worry about those little slivers of teflon getting into somewhere that could cause problems.
