Default Whir in cam

HI all I have a slight whir sound coming from the ev 27 I installed. I want to change the cam gear, but I can't Find the original cam. Can I just get a stock cam from that year and swap the gears or is it possible I will have the same problem still? Also I put a steel breather in their which may be complicating the problem

Thanks for help in advance!

You need to measure or have someone measure your gears, as per the instructions that came with the cam. Then change the pinion gear as needed. There currently is another thread on this forum you might want to check out. Hope this helps.

get rid of the steel breather, mostly its used for drag. Even with a new gear on the cam you will get a little wine.

I am suspicious of that thing. There weren't any gear size options that i know of, just a bunch of spacers that came with it.

I have to go in the rocker boxes anyway this fall/winter, so I will put the nylon one back in and try it.

I personally wouldn't put off checking this out until winter if you plan to continue riding until then. As mentioned, it may be that your new cam isn't shimmed correctly. You don't want to keep riding like that, it could cause damage.

I think I will be doing this tear down around labor day weekend. I can get it apart in a couple hours or less. Something is going on in one of my rocker boxes, so I might as well get the cam figured while in there. Just have to figure out how to approach the cam fix.

So items to check:

Cam Gear
Pinion Gear (get them to match)
Steel Breather (stay or go?)
Outer cam bearing (replaced outer AFTER I spaced the cam - probably wrong, and should have done measure again)
Cam end play

Anything i missed?
