Default What to look for!

Just bought that 1989 FXRT
run good but wonder what to look for on that evo engine
What's their biggest problem
some one told me that doing the gst under the cylinder one time out of two the base crack where the stud are?

Their biggest problem is the nut that connects the handlebars to the seat.

If it runs good don't fix it.

Bought my 1990 new and they had a few silly things that went wrong with them, usually in their first couple of years. Once fixed they are fine. So don't dwell on the past and what might have been 20 years ago, keep your eye on the road ahead, ride and enjoy!

Good dependable tough engines! Do a compression test to determine the overall health of your motor or just run it if all feels good! Keep the oil clean & ride man.

Tappet rollers are the only weakness in that engine. I lost a roller in mine at 46,000 miles (the needle bearings give out) and it eventually cost me the engine. If you're near 40,000 or so, I'd think about new lifters if they haven't been done already. Otherwise, ride and enjoy.

75,000 Kilometers that is around 45,000 miles!

I had an FXRS of about the same vintage..1985. The Evo is a strong long lived motor.
Have it checked out...I have a friend that put 162K on his.
