Rev-Tech engines
I was out riding the other day and stopped in at a dealership. A guy came up and asked me about my bike and said that he had the same exact bike and that he had never seen another one. He told me that some years ago the engine went and he replaced it, based on the advice of a "friend" with a RevTech. He told me that he has regretted it ever since. He said that he wishes he had spent the extra money and bought the S&S engine. He says the Revtech is noisy.
Any thoughts?

Rev-Tech is a perfect example of a good design and cheap construction and they have a higher than acceptable ratio of total engine failure (they tend to grenade frequently)....I would never put one in my bike without first completely disassembling it and putting it back together.
That way at least I'd know it was put together correctly.

The strange thing is that Rev Tech were approved by the MoCo some years ago to build replacement TC96 engines in 120", 131", 135" displacements, so one would hope they can built half decent engines. I don't think I've read a favourable review of their products on HDF, although how much of that is simply repeating internet gossip is another matter! Ultima suffered a similar reputation for a long while and it isn't clear if they are fault-free yet. I bought an S&S myself - fit and forget (so far!).....
This guy says that the revtech he installed runs OK but rattles and makes all grades of noises that keeps him worried that's it's about to seize. He did say that he had "heard" that the newer revtechs were better engines. I'll keep my HD refurbish..
I couldn't agree more, love my S&S. Runs much smoother and quieter than my stock Evo. And it's quite the power house, yet very dependable. I'm so glad I didn't pass the opportunity to upgrade.
I do however know a guy that rides a ridged frame rat bike that's powered by a 15 year old 100" RevTech that's still running strong "according to him". Say's he's got 60k miles on it and it's never been apart. It's filthy and leaking oil everywhere, but it runs.
I would personally ever install another RevTech part on any of my bikes again. I had one of their 6-speed transmissions lock up on me while cruise at 75mph. It locked my rear wheel to a full stop. Then couldn't move the bike off the hwy until help showed up. No thanks,
