Default Dyna tank on RK?

Anyone know if a 1997 Dyna fuel tank will fit a 1997 Road King? I saw a local carbed Dyna tank for sale, and thought it might work for my carb conversion on my 97 Road King. I know the fill hole on the Dyna is different, but other than that don't know much else.

All you need to convert your RK tank to a carb is a Pingel tap and adapter kit. That includes an adapter to take the tap and a blank to fill the other hole. On the other hand, if you are after a custom look, I don't know if a Dyna tank will fit!

grbrown,
Thanks for the reply! I have looked into the Pingel adapter kit. I know you need to use a cut off wheel, and do a little work to get the Pingel kit to work - as well as be careful not to blow yourself up, while grinding I figured if I could get a carbed tank cheap enough in decent condition, I could save the time cutting down the EFI fuel port.

Fill the tank (once dry and empty) with exhaust gas from your car and it won't explode when you cut it.

I have a later EFI tank on my carb bike, with only one outlet, but the Pingel adapter kit I bought came with a threaded blank that I didn't need. I'm not sure why it should be necessary to use a cutter, if earlier tanks have two threaded outlets. I'm glad the Atlantic is between us!!!!

grbrown,
I am assuming with the Pingel adaptor, you will need to do some on the EFI tank to make it work - I am going by the conversion info I have found on the web. Maybe Pingel has made upgrades to the adaptor? Yeah; it's a good thing your on the other site of the pound - just in case my tank explosion is epic (I hope not)

My EFI tank has a threaded hole where the tap goes, but it is too large a thread for the tap, so the adapter I have is rather like a bolt that is also threaded through the centre. The adapter screws into the tank and the tap screws into the adapter. The blank I have, which came as part of the adapter kit, has the same thread as the adapter and fits the same hole, but doesn't have a hole in it for the tap.

This link shows the adapter installed on an EFI tank (go to 'Accessories', then 'Magneti Conversion') and I can't see where you will need to do any cutting! I will be hiding down in the basement until you give the all-clear....

I think exhaust gas from an old Ironhead would work better than some Japanese car with a catalytic converter.....

I'm driving an old 73 Ford LTD, with not catalytic converter, which will gas up that RK tank quite nicely
