Default stillstill can't get the carb dailed in!! sum help!!

I just got out of the hospital last week. I've got the bike running smoothly all the way til wot. Still breaks up. I took it to my buddies shop. He said since I've had the heads done an cam with all the upgrades that the hd petcock isn't flowing enough to keep up with wot. He said if I go with a pingel it will solve my problem. What do you guys think?

How much HP are you talking about here? I find it hard to believe that the stock petcock won't keep up with WOT, even on a big motor. I think: Try 2 sizes larger main jet. Does it get worse or better, or different? Try 2 sizes smaller main jet. Worse or better? You can even change the main jet without dropping the float bowl. It's a couple minute job. My bet is you are too fat on top, so try 1 or 2 sizes smaller first.

Hope the hospital "visit" went well.

Bingo... Jet issue.... Play around till you find the right combo.

Here is a good basic article on tuning the carb. http://www.cv-performance.com/harley..._screw_tuning/

and another... http://www.cv-performance.com/harley...tuning-issues/

most times the issue is a basic one that was overlooked

Have fun!!!!

I don't buy the petcock issue, If you filled the tanks, pulled the gas line off and opened it, that tank would drain in 10 minutes, 15 max. You would need an awfully big power plant to use that much fuel. If you suspect fuel starvation I'd look at the float level, jet, and above all else, make it spotless. My lawntracktor was running bad at full throttle and I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, slight improvement. Took it back apart and ran thin wire and paper clips through the passages, nothing big really came out but it runs like new now...It only takes a tiny bit of crud in the wrong spot to cause an issue.

Wink

Pingels are nice, but expensive! I agree with the others, check jetting first - or just ride a bit more slowly.....

We have cleaned the carb 3 times. He also recleaned it an double checked my float height. Its set to harley specs. He also said today he noticed that when he turned the petcock on today that it was leaking a little. He said he even checked the timing.

If I go lower in jets it gets a lot worse. Plugs are a creamy coffee color.

Then go bigger in jets and see what happens. What carb is this?

I'd be willing to try a new petcock, but if it didn't fix the problem, I wouldn't be paying for it.

Looks like a S&S, the fuel inlet is 5/16" and the stock petcock outlet is 1/4".
If it leaks now, it's a no brainer, "pass more gas" with a pingel!
