Default Floating Rotors

The front rotor on Scarlett looks dull so, I'm thinking about a new SHINEY one.

For those of you who have one, how do you like "full floating" rotors?

Great on a race bike. Of no value on a Harley. But at least a true full floater will be another rattle to listen to. If you want one, get it in iron and not stainless. Might as well get the full value.

Default New Calipers

Never used them, but have read not worth the extra cost on a Harley. New aftermarket calipers, such as Performance Machine, GMA & others will give you more bang for the buck. IMO
Ride Safe,
Harold

I'm running the HD ones, they are cheaper. They do rust though inside the holes. They don't rattle, the buttons are very tight, unlike race bike ones. They're made my Suntour, so standard Japanese stuff- but you knew the front of your bike was all Japanese anyway right? Showa forks, etc.

Here's the rear:

money well spent if you are going to fit fixed calipers (read aftermarket)

non floating rotors have to run 100% true if you run a fixed caliper, sadly hd quality isn't that good, non floating rotors are fine with floating calipers but with fixed calipers and fixed rotors and poor manufacturing tolerances you will probably end up with shudder in your brakes

YUP! I got the brackets from fab kevin, $150 I believe. Grabbed the calipers for $90 on ebay. Spent $150 on the pads.

I'm going to try and get a 2005 dual piston rear dyna caliper on the back- scored one for $50 on ebay. I'll have a shop machine to fit the swingarm and see if it'll work.

I have floating rotors on my 99 Softail Custom, and I like them just fine. They were on it when I got it so I don't know what the difference would be. My brakes work really well with HD pads so maybe that is due to the floaters. When I got the bike it had 17,000 on it, and now has 41,000 and the rotors still look new.

no kidding Zimm,

Fab Kevin called me personally the other night from an email. Himself and he was super nice and sincere as he was busy in Detroit he called me after 8pm.
To be honest, with the RG, me and the wifepiece youre lookin at ~1100 lbs. I want jap stopping power and not the 1960s tech on my bike now. It will be over $500 but it will be $500 that I shoulda spent when the wife is on her *** if I rear-end somebody because I'm driving too fast and the bike stops like a Model-T...

ThreadJack over!

Thanks,

Tom
