Default FLH swingarm swap

Part of my winted mods, I'm planning to swap the swingarm on my '95 to an '04.. All seems very straight forward, though I'm wondering if I'll really need to change the belt due to the swingarm length difference.. Anyone been there done that with a stock belt?? I'm hoping to leave the primary on if possible, though, if I'll need a pulley either way, I may go with a narrow one. Again, just looking to bounce the idea around..
Thanks,

I put a 2000 swing arm on my 1997 Dyna, for the brake upgrade. There was no difference in length causing a need to change the belt. They were basically identical accept for the welded on flange/bracket to accept the caliper.

PS I later changed to a narrower belt to allow me to run a 150 rear tire, barely fits but looks great.

Thats good to know, I may do my Dyna next year.. I've read of some guys finding the newer swingarm longer than the old one. However, the one's I'm aware of were converted to chain or changing gears at the same time, so not quite my situation..

I think GRBrown posted a thread on fitting a later S/A on here some time back. Lots of details from what I remember.

Thanks Hopper, I've actually talked to Graham about it. The issue is, he changed his ratio at the time which changed his needs a bit from mine.. Great suggestion though..

It is true I changed ratio (from International spec 61T to US spec 70T), but I had tried without success to work with my stock belt and rear pulley, so as I needed to change belt, I took the opportunity to change ratio at the same time.

There is a change in length of swingarm from the short #47544-85 on my 1990 Glide to the longer #47549-97. So it looks as if you may have to change belt as well. Your 95 bike has the same swingarm as mine.

Guess I was just hoping your situation was different, with the overseas gearing and all... Must have misunderstood the sequence of your decision.. Argh...... loos like I'll need another $300 worth of drive components for this damn swingarm upgrade..
Thanks for chiming in Graham!

I did my 98 RG to a 2008 setup not too long ago...
if i went with my stock sprocket and 2007 etc...I could have kept my stock belt...I think just enlarge the hole for different rear axle sizes... or someone else take off with same tooth...
I did the 2008 different teeth...1" belt (150 rear tire with this belt)...different trans pulley and engine sprocket and baker 6spd...whole different bike now...

I realize this is a six year old thread but does anyone know how much of a length difference there is between the 47544-85 swing arm and the 47549-97? Also if you have to go with a longer belt that tells me that the wheel sits back further. Does that create any wheel to fender clearance issue? I completely killed the swing arm on my 86 e-glide by attempting to cut out the inner left slotted section that was badly mutilated and weld in the same section cut out from another swing arm which I had taken great pains to make it a perfect fit, beveled all edges to get 100% penetration, backed it up with aluminum from the inside so I wouldn't just blow through it, tacked it in place, welded it in and never thought about weld shrinkage because the section that was cut out of both arms was only about 5/16" of the tubes one inch width but it pulled the end of the tube in a good 3/16". any info appreciated.
