Yes there is...the neutral switch...it goes to the ECM...try disconnecting it...and see if it still dies when you shift into first...not a fix but may help you find the problem. Also check to see if the bike has a kickstand switch(police and bikes destined for export did)...it designed to kill the bike if it is in gear with the stand down...if you have one and it is malfunctioning...could be the problem...pic of stand switch

If that was done then i am thinking you have a loose or broken wire someplace that is missing its connection and grounding out causing the breaker to trip...shake and wiggle of every wire after checking both ends of battery cables and any acc. cable connected to battery...something is shorting upon the clunk of gear engagement.
Did you check for codes?

Pull the code if there is any , you turn the key on & off some many time & the codes will show on the speedo , also just check all the easy stuff first leave your wallet alone , you just might have a loose / or rub raw wire some where & it shakes when you hit the shifter or it warms up to running temps
