I finally got my Ultima / Dyna 2Ki adj ignition set to perfection and wanted to share what worked for me, knowing some of you have recently installed one.
Problem: I had lite pinging in this 90* heat when I would bog it out the hole, [first gear take off]. Retarding the ignition did not help, 4th curve did not help, high octane did not help.. ETC did not help....................
Simple fix....... THROW AWAY THE VOES....... Use the Ignition advance only and I re-dynamic tuned it to dot dead center at 1700 rpm. Im set in the 3rd curve.
Now, I Cant make it ping if I try and bike will throw you off if your not ready for lift off { T minus 1 and counting }.

Never heard of a "silent Ping" but the ping I did hear is now gone. Ill take no ping over a Ping I can hear any day.

 

You mean like Curly, Larry & Moe? I can name 3 mechanics on this forum that say ditch the VOES but I wont drag them into the conversation, maybe they will chime in.
I tried everything even calling Dynatek Service a couple of times for tuning pointers with the Voes to no avail.... Dynatek said if removing the Voes works, then so do it. I reported back to Dyna Service Rep and he was proud it worked and had no other warnings..

 

Glad to help anytime, Im not the pro but I know what worked for me. This is the first time my timing has been on dead center and no ping. The adj ignition did just that all by its self. So I would conclude The advance-retared in the Adjustable ignition is quite sufficient for a proper tune with no ping.

 

I run the same Ignition and do not have the VOES connected either. I just programmed up a custom advance curve on the laptop and run with that.

 

GraemeR, Can I ask what Compression and which curve you are set at?
