The better thing to do is to reduce the heat. That way your engine will run Better and Longer, plus it will be a more comfortable ride for you and your passenger.
LINK to report on reducing the heat & improving performance.

I wrapped the V&H Softail Dual's on my '15 slim....I only wrapped the 6" or so section right under the oil tank where it's close to my thigh. From what I've seen the wrap tends to cause the damage close to the jugs where the heat is the most extreme. I used safety wire to secure it after the wrap..I also thought about laying a strip on top an on the outer side of the pipe an not wrapping it. If I had an unlimited budget I would send that section or both head pipes to jet coat for internal coating to control heat.

if the shields use band clamps (worm), you could try going to a insulation shop and get a solid insulation brick like used in heat exchangers, they could even shape it to fit the radii of the pipe. they also make blankets that go onto exhaust pipe. we used a ton of them offshore and in a closed engine space, makes a big diff.
on draw back is it will increase the heat in that area of the pipe so expect blueing.
