Anyone got a picture of a Thunderheader with heat shields on the bike? I'm debating whether to wrap my head pipes or order thier heat shields.Thier site does not show the heat shields and really doesn't talk much about them.My pipes are black so I'm not really concerned about covering up discoloration I just want to reduce the heat I feel on my leg when sitting in traffic.
Can't say anything about appearance, that's a personal thing. But for durability, the heat shields are better.
Wrapping traps heat back into the pipe material. Stand off heat shields allow the heat to dissapate from the metal. In the rain, the wrap will get soaked, and trap moisture against the pipe. Even after washing, you'll have to be sure and run the motor until the wrap dries. Heat and moisture will eventually cause a failure. If you only ride a couple thousand miles a year, probably not a big deal.
