I recently bought the chrome, S&S Superstreet 2 into 1 "Race Only" system (550-0790) for my 2020 Softail Slim. I shopped around and looked at a lot of pictures at various online vendors and finally placed my order. I was excited when they were delivered. My excitement turned to disappointment when I opened the box and saw something that was not in any of the product photos on any of the websites that sold these. Right next to the S&S logo on the muffler, about the same size as the logo, is etched "RACE ONLY". I don't know if it's laser etched or some sort of powdercoat but it won't come off with any of the chemicals I tried. Acetone, metal polish, chrome polish, etc.
I don't have a problem with them branding the race only stuff like this if that's what they want to do. I do have a problem with them not showing the branding in any of the product photos. I would not have bought the system if I had seen what it actually looked like. The vendor wants a 15% restocking on all returns so I might be out $150 if I return them. I don't know if they'll waive that under the circumstances. I haven't received a reply to my email yet.

Looks tacky, can't say that I blame you for being disappointed.

 

But think about how much faster it'll be because it's race only. I don't think I'd be happy with it either. Must be some new way to cover their ***.

 

Have you spoken to S&S directly to find out WTF..???
IMHO..."15% restocking fee on all returns" is BS unless they have some kind of disclaimer that "image is representative but product received may differ", which would also be BS on this kind of product.

 

No, I haven't spoken with S&S yet. My work schedule has me tied up right now. I did email the vendor to let them know. They claim they don't take their own photos, they use the stock photos from S&S. I think a vendor has a responsibility to know exactly what they are selling so claiming ignorance isn't a valid defense.

 

if you decide to keep it drill out the rivets on the emblem and drill holes to mount it over race only. Put 2 new rivets where you drilled out the old ones.

You will have to look close to see the emblem is covering something up.

 

use a small center drill to start the hole so the drill bit won't slip.

 

I recently bought the S&S Sidewinder 2-1, non-cat (race only) for touring frames and it doesn't have that on the muffler. I had heard about it and was prepared to live with it but I was pleased it was missing. Weird.

I looked at a crap ton of places and no where did I see in any vendor pictures with "race only" on them. I would absolutely call S&S and have a talk with them. I'd also out the vendor for not making it right and trying to charge you 15% for something they advertised wrong (or had the wrong pictures). They should have given you a pre-paid shipping slip and said sorry, we'll make it right.
