please help
I have recently returned from Iraq. My wife suprised me with a 93 spotster 90th aniversary edition 1200. I live in montana so have only been able to put 50 miles on it. I went out to fire it up the other day and it will crank, but wont start. I smell gas, so i am pretty sure that it is getting gas. what else can I do? Why won't it start?

Hi John, First and foremost thanks for your service to our country!!![sm=americanasmiley.gif] Secondly, welcome to the Forum, it's a great place with lots of great folks that are very knowledgeable. I'd suggest posting your question on one of the Tech Forums, you'll definitely get the help you need there. Nice lookin' scoot, what a great surprise!!!
Welcome John,
If it is turning over and you smell gas, it's probably flooded. If the plugs are fouled it won't fire. Get a new sit of plugs and try it again. I think you might have some luck. Let be know if this works.

Terry hit it on the head. I would pick up some fresh plugs or even try cleaning and drying the ones in there now. You should also consider a charger on the battery. If the voltage drops too low on some electronic ignition systems, you get no spark. A battery tender would work well. Also if it is very cold in your garage, this would make it a bit hard to start also.
Here's some info on the battery tender. You can leave it hooked up on this while you are gone without fear of overcharging the battery as it has a float mode.. https://www.hdforums.com/m_154614/tm.htm
Thank you for the service to our country also John.

I would like to thank all the riders out there who gave me all the help and suggestions about my starting problems. As it turns out it was spark plugs. I replaced the plugs and it fired right up. Man I LOVE that sound. can't wait to get out and put some miles on it.
Thanks all
