Default starter question

I have 95 ci tc with 11.25:1.Having few problem cranking it.Slow turning.Might be batterys not hot enough.all connections are good and cables worked fine before up compression.
What Im wondering is how much stronger is the next step up started I think its 1.4 or something .I have the extra stout spyke on springer but its 127 ci with 13:1 you expect to need some grunt to bump it over.
Im trying to avoid the compression release, for one pulling motor back down ao machine heads and then having to figure out setup for machining them on the milling machine.Second never had problems with ones on springer but then its bar hopper not 8000 miler like roadking has coming up.
Any other suggestions will be considered too.
1st option bigger starter
2nd bigger battery
3rd compression releases
4th__________________ your suggestion here

well after reading your post i had to sit back and wonder hy any one would attempt to turn this motor over with out releases.
it is obvious that you are no stranger to compression and the releases are a small investment in what could possibley be a major cost.
1.if the enging was to kick back you could start to damage the starter gears wich could chip and get lodged else where.
2. theres a lot of stress on the crank during start up compression releases make it easier to spin and fire.
3. they are cheap.
4. a spyke starter does not necessarly mean you wont need releases.
5. they just make sense.

well was in hurry and didnt have them on hand at time of machining heads. Also theres plenty of guys running 10.5 motors with no release and only 3/4 higher plus with these little 4 inch cranks didnt figure turning be any big deal.Plus with cam i have was hoping it would help some. After all everyones telling me I have to much cam(yea like thats possible).Like I said if was big crank high compression I wouldnt have considered it.
I can yank the motor down and throw the heads on bridgeport and set them up. hell just good afternoons work.

If you don't have at least a 300 CCA battery and a set of nice FAT cables I might give that a shot. Before I get flammed, I'm NOT saying that you shouldn't have CR releases. In any case, the better battery and cables are nice to have anyway.

If you dont put the compression releases on that engine, you're just asking for trouble down the road. Like mentioned above, it's just plain hard on parts. If it's only an afternoon's work for you to put them on, it'll be well worth the effort.

What kind of cam are you running anyway? 11.25:1 on a 95" might work ok without releases if the cams bleed off enough.

andrews 59 g 266/270 duration and .590 lift or .570 cant remeber exact lift.Any way its reason for compression being so high(or to some, heck springer 13:1,then came is a dragrace cam with .715 redshift cam).tHINK ITS MORE BATTERY RIGHT NOW I just order new big bore for it and cables too. right now just need it fired off so I can program stupid *** fuel controller.
Thinking about building another ground up touring bike with few changes but still works with most harley parts.A 155 ci tc with some extra frame length,4 to 6 degrees extra rake,2 inch lower seat and a 200 mm rear tire.HUm this sounding like fun now and yea no damn fuel controller except for my right hand.

Might set timming back 2-4 degrees. On a points bike total will be back some too but it might like that anyway. If FI and you can control the timing put it about "0-2 degree" at 70 -100 Map and that at 1000RPM and lower. Thats the starting area.
Try that and see if you can. G
Good luck
