Replacing Rear rocker gasket on a 883
I installed a new SE aircleaner and a DS Jet Kit on my 2000 883 last night and took it out for a run around the block to check it out. After making sure everything was still tight and patting myself on the back for a job well done I noted some oil blowback on the right side. Further inspection found the breather cover dry. Upon Starting the bike I detected a leak coming from the rocker gasket I guess my redline run through gears 1-3 was too much for it! \\; Looking at the HD service manual they pretty much want you to completley disassemble the bike for motor repair. From what I can see I need to remove the gastank, aircleaner and carb to get decent access to the head. It does look as though there is not enough clearence to remove the cover without dropping the motor in the frame. What all HAS to be done to do the job of replaceing a Rear rocker gasket?

Take it to a stealer that you trust. \\; My rear was leaking, and for $250 they replaced both front and rear. \\; 3 weeks later, when the rear was leaking again, they replaced the rear one again FREE!!!
 \\;
It seems that some Harley's have the rocker box leak problems. \\; And if you have a stealer with a good rep in your area, IMHO its better to let them do it.

Well I've only had my Sporty about a month so I don't know much about my local dealer (Southside Harley in Indy) but I'll give em a chance, It goes in Thursday and they quoted me $280 for both.....
 \\;
I'm sure I could do it myself but with working 50+ hrs a week I don't have much time to poke around, I need to get in and get er done!

$200+ for rocker gaskets is insane.  \\; \\; Do it yourself.  \\; It took me about an hour to do both front and rear on mine from start to finish. \\; And assuming your talking about the rocker to head gasket, \\; make sure you get the new metal gaskets and not the fiber ones.
