Default SE 113 with 264 cam noise

I have the 113 with the 264 cams, Man do these 264 cams make the noise. Has anyone else heard that these cams are real noisey. I keep hearing that with the SE 113 jugs are pretty thin and with the 264 cam there going to be pretty noisey. One more thing what would be a good exhaust with this motor.

A lot of people blame noises on cams....Not always true. There are about a dozen clearance checks that NEED to be made when building a high vube, high lift, high compression engine...

Was this motor assembled at a dealer?

My Pipe came like that. They are easy to get black now. Bart(Shooter64) hooked me up with a great price..

Since the dealer assembled the build, i would go back and ask questions of their assemble practices. Like...........
What was the crank runout?
What was the piston to cyl clearance?
Was camchest clearacing needed for those cams?
Was the oil pressure adressed?
What was the lifter preload?
Was the cam spaced correctly?
Was the rocker boxes check for clearance around the springs and rocker arms?
Was piston to valve clearance checked?
Are the pushrods(assuming you have adjustables) checked for hitting the tubes.
There are a couple others as well....

I have no direct experiance with that cam, but genereally S/E cams are not on the agressive ramp style so should not be too loud. Can you pinpoint where the sounds is coming from?

I bought it from a district manager from harley davidson i had to go pick it up 200 mile where the person lived and he had it done by one of his dealers he calls on and it about 150 mile from him so its hard to get up there and ask. The bike has 7,000 mile on the build. Did he order from D&D tom get the black pipes.

Go the the auto parts store and get some plain old castrol GTX 20w50. change the oil and thank me later....I only run syn oil in stock motors. If it works, let me know as i have tried 7 different types of motor oil in a rounds of testing in my bike this year. The castrol was most quiet in the noise department right next to torco oil....

Seriously try it.

And also, if you have adjustable pushrods, let me know what kind. A turn more depending on their TPI will/may help.....

I ran 264 cams in a 103 bagger...they were fairly quiet...I switched to the 251 and they made a lot more low rpm power and a lot more noise...I've also switched to dinosaur oil to quiet noise from aggressive cams/heavy valvesprings...just don't let it get over 240*F
