Default engine wisdom wanted

HERE WE GO!!!! 2008 Road King, I'm planning/researching /installing a Stage IV kit, BUT replacing the 110+ heads with MVA CNC port heads, replacing the 260 cams with Wood 400-6 or 408-6 cams, roller tappets & lifters, oil cooler, clutch, Bassani 2into1 Road Rage. Need advise on the bottom end, & who does a good job without the gold plated cost. AND NOW I'm ready for all the experts out there to let me know how stupid my choses are.

The 400 will bring it on sooner than the 408's, if that is what you want.
We are in the last stages of tuning a 117" with 400 cams, RB header, 45 Mikuni, CNC Harley heads, modified by us. 123/127 so far. Hits like a hammer on the bottom and rips 110 plus ft/lbs still at 5500. Semi-expected as much.
The crank was an S&S 4.375", that we welded after checking true.
Hoban Brothers is our choice for all Twin Cam crank work, as we build all our own pre-99 cranks in house.

Scott,
What cams would you recommend for a 117" if you wanted low end & mid-range TQ(2000-5500rpm)? Not looking for "the magic cams" but bike(03 FLHRCI) is used for touring & 2-up in the Rockies but would like some "stop light to stop light" grunt to pull my buddies in the city also. Looking for a happy medium! Thanks!

Default Bottom end

I have had great success plugging and welding those cranks myself without sending them out. Some of the R&R kits I install make so much low end torque that I have to recommend the timken bearing, plug, true, and weld. The heavy baggers that I do usually get the R&R stage 4 heads (welded and cnc ported) because packing heavy in the mountains needs the quick torque velocity that these heads supply.

Scott,
Which cam would be better(400 or 408) for mountain, secondary, freeway, occasonail 2 up(heavtweights) & solo ride it like I stole it? But I still like the rush of the kick in the butt low that stays there. Maybe I can't have it both ways, darn it. I came from a 08, 6,000 to 9,500 kick in the butt V Rod to the Road King. Revs needed to be high for the SMILE.

Randy (K.O.C.),
Already have the cast Stage V from R&R. What cams would you suggest for my applications?

Mike,
The 400's will come on quicker than the 408's will.
Great cam set-up correctly.
