Default RSD/K&N Filter question

Just installed a used RSD on my 2009 SERG...when I went to clean the K&N filter, the center part popped out.

Is it meant to do that, or has the filter come apart? I'd hate for it to come loose and not notice, as I'm sure some crap would get into the engine.

Can you post a photo so we can see exactly what happened?

I have the same set up on my bike.

ok, thanks. Yes, I called RSD, and they told me that it is designed to do so (I didn't ask why).

I took the cover off to check and satisfy myself that the centre piece pops out, and not inwards, so when it is all assembled, it is impossible for the center piece to come out.
