How long did it take you to strip the heads off?

I spent half of one Saturday taking the exhaust off then the fuel tank off (really taking my time and tinkering while I was at it). With the tank off, the next step was the TB; that took an hour. Then the heads and the jugs took maybe an hour or two (because I took my time and 'played' with the pieces as I took them off). I had fun rotating the tire and checking out the pistons and things like that.

When I pull my wiring from the various sensors, coil wires, etc, I'll tape them to the frame with masking tape, and make notes to myself on the masking tape, so I can recall which goes where and in what order on reassembly.

Your doing great.
Take your time, and just pay attention, and you'll be in good shape.

If you ever come across an old phone line with all those small collored wires cut it with a chop saw and you can use those small wires to id things. I use that a bunch for id'ing wires and hyd hoses! FWIW

Thanks to everyone... finally had a chance to get started yesterday and it has been pretty smooth so far. I'm ready to remove the TB and rocker boxes, and my timeline seems to be about the same as Harley Jeff's... spent about 4 hours yesterday getting to the point I'm at, and figure I have maybe a couple of hours left now.

I appreciate the support and encouragement.

Roger

I just pulled the top end down on my '02 FLHT the other day; 2 hours. You can get it done pretty quick once you have done it a time or two. Just be patient, follow the service manual and take your time; it's not a race.

Before you commit to Bean, check out Vee Twin Performance and/or Hillside for a basic street port deal. They are both forum sponsors and offer different "packages" at competitive prices. VeeTwin also has a $299 street port that you might be of interest; check them out.
