Fuel not flowing through petcock

Fuel not flowing through petcock
So I got my bike all put together last night and it started right up. I put on a new tank, and petcock. I used the old lines from the previos tank and there must have been just enough fuel left in them to start the bike up because now when I go to start the bike it wont start.
The battery is plenty strong and i already tried charging it.
Then I decided to test the petcock. I took the hose off and turned the fuel on and nothing came out. then with the hose still off I tried to start it and no fuel would flow. What could be the problem?
Im going to try taking the tank and petcock back off again, and we'll see what happens.
Anyone else have problems like this?

If the petcock you installed is a vacuum operated petcock, it will not allow fuel to flow unless there is engine vacuum applied to it. If you do not want to use the vacuum feature of the petcock, take the vacuum falve apart, move the spring to the oposite side of the diaphram, and re-assemble it. Now gas will flow without vacuum.
