Default Best Carb For a 95 C.I. Upgrade?

Howdy,

I am in the process of putting together a 95 C.I. package on my FXD.

I have been told by my local shop's Service Manager that I should use the Mikuni 45mm carb. Is this to much carb?

What are the advantages, disadvantages between a 45mm Flatslide Mikuni and a 44mm CV?

Is the 42mm Mikuni the best choice?

What is your favorite color?? (just kidding)

Thanks In Advance,

Current Spec's:
88 C.I.
Stock heads and intake
Dynojetted CV, (50 slow and 205 main) (Dyno run prior to 50 and 205 install)
SE Stage 1 A/C
SuperTrapp SuperMegs 2:1 exhaust
S&S Cam Gear DrivE
Andrews TW-37G cams.

Planned:
95 or 98 C.I. jugs and pistons
Mikuni or CV carb,
SE Intake Manifold
Possible HTTC Ported heads (heads are another big question mark)
Cometic Head Gasket

Most people like the CV44 better. Its easier to tune.
But, do you really NEED a larger carb? The stock carb properly jetted/tuned should be fine for a 95". The only place it might not be enough is in the high R's where you really don't spend too much time. Unless you plan on racing, then I would leave it and spend your money elsewhere...like headporting!

You didn't give details for the 95", if it's mild build I would stay with the CV44, If your running big head work, big cams, a little comp, I might look a little diff

I would run the Mikuni 42, we dont think the are hard to tune at all, I ran one on my Road King, with the 95" build and loved it.

I have a friend who has nearly the same set up you will have. He was told by dealer to do the same thing. When I was talking to Mike Stegman about cutting my pistons I asked him what he thought about new carb while I was talking to him for my friend. Mike is the main man at Latus motors HD. They are a dealership that also build racing motors. They have done several builds for American Iron mag. Mike is a hech of a nice guy and they have tons of dynos on there web sight. He said that unless he was doing some head work that the carb is not cost effeciant. The heads on Twin Cam are the choke point. The stock cv is all you need unless looking at over 100 club. Will it help you? Sure. Will you be able to tell the differance except on a dyno? I doubt it. Just my 2 cents.

If your going to still use the 37s I would not buy the HTCC heads better to send yours out to get ported and have them set them up for that cam. And I have had good luck with the 44CV. JMO

I totally agree with Shooter on this. The HSR42 is very easy to tune and you will certainly notice a difference in throttle response. I had one on my previous RG & it was awesome!

The 42 is plenty big for what you've got... and then some.
