Default Akrapovic 2 into 1

I've bought one of these for my breakout.

http://www.akrapovic.com/#!/motorcyc...70&yearId=2518

I'm still waiting for it to turn up and was wondering if anyone had any views on how good it will be once I start changing cams etc. I am currently reading about what is the best route to take with regard to tuning mods but will be going for mid range torque but would still like it to pull upto the redline.

Initially I will just be fitting a k&n filter and doing a remap.

Akropovic have been around a long time, making systems for other brands and have a good name. It will be interesting to hear how you find yours. If you use Search for Akropovic you won't find many posts!

I've had Akrapovics on other bikes and have been pleased with the quality and sound they produce.

Yeah there is very little info on these here or on the web in general, I was hoping a few exhaust experts might give a theoretical opinion based on pipe length before the 2 into 1 etc. with regard to varying states of tune.

I had V & H pipes on my last harley which were great but thought I'd try something different this time, I will let you know how I find it once it arrives and I get it fitted. Cheers.

This exhaust has intrigued me since I first saw it online. Observations:

- VERY short both on individual pipe lengths and overall system. Long enough to use pressure waves well?

- Awfully short baffle given the view from the exit hole, and the short available total straight section of pipe. That suggests it is going to be either pretty loud or pretty restrictive

- Your leg might get pretty hot

- The presence of BOTH hot header pipes RIGHT under the air cleaner might result in very hot intake air when sitting at a traffic light, or in stop and go traffic

- KILLER good looking!!!

I think they look great. Too short for me. I'd like to see one with a muffler that exits near the back of the wheel.

harley primaries need around mid 20's in length or more to take advantage of slow firing events, this one looks shorter than that. Collector here is super small, muffler/baffle tiny too. I have never seen this style tuned but it seems like a looks preference thing over performance. Most good 2 into 1's end at the axle or longer for good reason. Nothing about this pipe even the looks is good to me. OP if going cams too should look elsewhere on exhaust. the short swoopy pipes is fad bike builder stuff that Paul jr. would probably like...that means in a year you'll hate it, or should.

Interesting choice, might just be a kickass pipe. I like that its not what everyone else has!

This is my main concern

They say it's a silencer rather than a baffle, looking at the picture it does look more restrictive?

Akrapovic do have a reputation for good power from their exhausts I just hope that carries over to their harley range. Here's a you tube I found for the sound, not as loud as I'd like, sounds better at full volume, but not sure volume controls are included.

No problem there, it's cold in England

- The presence of BOTH hot header pipes RIGHT under the air cleaner might result in very hot intake air when sitting at a traffic light, or in stop and go traffic
From what I can tell the headers should be far enough away and when I'm riding the airblast should help. I don't stop for much, usually just the pub!

I like it.

QC - I've come from a dyna wide glide and love the look of the softails rear triangle so the short pipe was a plus for me as it shows off the rear end.

ntraindavefl - mid 20's I'm guessing we're talking inches here? The pipe is due in sometime next week so I will take some measurements and post. The fact it does look so different from most performance pipes does worry me a bit and as you say most are longer.

Oh no, don't say that I can't stand the oc themed stuff! I'm hoping that some of the Akrapovic racing development has filtered into to this pipe as for me it's performance over looks but this is a gamble.

cdonis - cheers, me too

Thanks to all so far, I'll keep you posted
