1- change the float to the Rubber Ducky, easy and cheap

2- manifold leak test. A leaky manifold will drive u crazy. New seals for under the plumbers nuts are avaialble, better then the old brass

once you are past all of that, you can tune the carb. Good luck

You have a very expensive motorcycle, Make sure the title says it's a 74" motor. It's worth 2 or 3 times the value of a 45 harley.
Good Luck on your find.

The clutch could be slipping, even my 45 does that when it's warmed up.
The air cleaner could or could not be original, folks change things.
It looks like you have the low compression heads, they are iron, the UL and ULH motors has aluminum heads. I have a 40U motor and it had iron heads and I replaced them with aluminum. I believe they run cooler. As you know flat heads don't get any oil cooling in the top of the motor.

Damn., what a beast this bike is is. It leaves in it‘s wake a trail of oil and fuel smoke that no ***** virus could survive in. Slowly but surely figuring out how this machine wants to be started hot and cold. I figure the oil burn is is pretty normal so I will focus on the carb. I see the rubber ducky float kit but does the float also serve as the bowl gasket? Or do I need a bowl gasket

Float is the float, yes you will need a gasket for the bowl as well.

So these are pics of my clutch in and out. My gears grind a little bit when I shift so should I adjust the rod a little tighter?
