Default Lever not returning fat enough

2013 Dyna Street Bob

When I release the front brake lever, the brake light stays lit until i PUSH the lever forward about 1/8 - 1/4 inch, then ithe brake light goes off.

This is scaring me because - If I drive around not realizing my brake light is already lit, there will be not change when I grab a handful of brake.

Thanks

Switch needs cleaned ? ( item 25 in 1st pic)
Switch needs replaced ?
It`s possible your master cylinder needs service but the switch is more likely (item 5 in 2nd pic)

Cool, thank you.

Lemme as you this, about it - Is it normal to have that 1/4" of free play in the lever before you start feeling any tension at all?

1. Number of miles on your bike would be useful.
2. When was the last time you flushed your brake fluid?
3. If you have moisture in the fluid, it will not preform as intended and may not release the lever back fully.
4. Flushing and bleeding the brake lines along with cleaning the switch as stated above should fix your issue.

NOTE:
The above information, while credible, is worth what you paid for it and should not be considered gospel.
Do due diligence, research and have a H-D Field Service Manual before working on your bike.
You will probably have many opinions and suggestions presented; make sure you research the person providing the helpful information as there are some who provide good information that is useful and some who speak out of other orifices with gibberish. You will figure out this quickly.

KISS

take a look at the cable adjustment. the return in the master only has limited travel. if your brakes seem to drag, def look at the master for sticking since the common port is not being fully open at the ned of the return stroke.
1?4 free lever play is excessive and only adds to lever buzz.

Every time I see this problem, go straight to the master cylinder, the brake fluid is full of gunk, keeping the plunger from returning completely.
Most of the time, no parts are required to repair it, disassemble and clean it, and flush the rest of the system.
