Default Brake light issues

On my 08 Fat Bob the brake light stays on unless I physically push the front brake lever forward. Anyone know where the switch is that activates the brake light for the front lever. Is there some adjustment I can make here? It appears the rear brake lever works as it should.

Thanks

I just fixed this problem. Inside the the brake housing there is plunger that goes in and out. when the brake is not engaged the plunger is depressed. there is tine little tip to the plunger and if it happens to break your break light will constantly be on. I took it to the dealer because i didnt want to mess it up even more. It cost me 160 bucks. In my opinion well worth it. basically your switch is bad. it is also possible that your rear brake is always makeing contact but i highly doubt it. this is a well known problem among harleys in the 06,07,08 era. they may have fixed it with the 09's. did you just change your brake lever?

A easy fixer is that, what you use to put under chairs legs,tv..

To prevent scrathes, well i took a very small piece and pull back

my front brake and install it on the lever were is makes contact with

the swith..ran like that for 6 months and fixed the swith when

i install my new grips...it is easy to fix and save 160.00....

70222-96b use this it will hell you understand better...

Hope it will help...

it's actually not that easy to do the brake light switch.
espceially do it the right way. the switch isn't cheap.
I also know alot of people mess it up when changing bars/levers.
the nub on the switch is very fragile.

The switch is located as shown in image 2 (p/n 2). Try to adjust the switch's position by bending out the wedge.

Here's how the brake activates the switch:

The pin on the lever (see image 1 p/n 1) pushes the plunger into the brake cylinder when squeezed... at the same time the brake switch which is mounted through the hole (image 2 p/n 3) is being released.

Could be the switch has been damaged. When you work on the brake side follow these instructions:

When you want to take off the lever from the handlebar and insert a piece of 4mm cardboard, the lever is pulled in a little allowing the pin to come off the brake switch's rubber cap. Now the lever can be removed without snagging this rubber cap.

When you re-install the lever, insert the cardboard as well and insert the lever as shown in image 3....

If you do a search for brake switch in the Dyna Models section you'll find some more threads on this subject....

if you pysically have to push the lever out, maybe your master needs a rebuild too.

I have the exact same issue. It isn't a switch problem, it's because of the rubber piece in there needs replaced. I took it to the dealer and they said they wouldn't guaranteed warranty it, they'd have to let a technician check it out etc. Next time it's in for service I'm going to have them look at it.

Thanks for the help guys.......I ended up going to the dealer and buying the $65 switch and doing it myself. I could not justify paying them another $65 to install it, especially when I just did my cams myself. I thought it was real easy to install. Just need to treat it like it's goona break if you touch it. Had no problems and light works great now.
