Why is it that if you buy the vance and hines fuel pac 3 , you cant transfer it or sell it , when in the past the older fuel pacs you were able to give it away or sell it?

Why buy it if you don't want it?

Earlier Fuel Paks were piggy back devices that just interrupted the signal from the ECM to the injectors and changed it. They didn't re-flash or over-write anything in the ECM, and once you removed them the bike operated as normal. You could put them on bike after bike and the only thing you had to do was enter different values for whatever bike you put it on.

The FP3 is a entirely different product that will re-flash the ECM and should also store the original "map," should you want to go back to that. It becomes linked to the ECM and can't be used on another bike. I haven't used a FP3, but from the description they sound more like a SERT or TT Mastertune sort of device.

Because if you don't like it and sell it to someone else, the company loses out on a sale.

Being married to the bike is nothing new for flash tuners.
That's one more thing I like about my TMax. If I want, I can remove its ECM and put the stock one back on the bike. Then I can install it on another bike or sell it.

IIRC you can still use 2 copies. One on your desk top and one for your lap top or traveling machine. But even that may be gone.

You could never do that legally though. LOL

There may not have been any software checks to prevent it, but that didn't mean you were not guilty of software piracy.
And if caught, they would go after you even though the chance of being caught were slim.
