Default Has anyone ever put an o ring on the plug for there oil tank ?

Every once in a while I put a little to much oil in the oil tank . And 30 mins into my ride it starts to weep out through the plug and down the outside of the tank. The tank plug I have has a temp gauge in it and it is very easy to push in or remove.
So I was thinking of putting a VITON o ring in one of the rubber gooves in the plug to add more sealing pressure. Has anyone done this fix .

I did this on my 2000 Heritage. It makes it harder to put in but it did stop the weeping. It is a good mod. I only used 1 o-ring and it has worked for over 15 years now.

Don't install too much oil in the tank.

my cap started to get too loose so went to the neighborhood hardware store with the plug so i could fit the o-ring. i ended up with a real skinny one that was just big enough around to slip onto the cap.

I have been buying them for years. They all worked fine but not the new ones. The 1st one for my '12 Deluxe popped out and covered the exhaust side of my ride with oil.I bought another and it also fit very loose. I went with an "O" ring and all is good.

I put two O rings on my softtail oil tank plug because it was just to lose & they solved that problem . Snugged up the plug .
