Default Clutch Adjustment Help Please

I have been riding and adjusting the clutch on HD's since 2005 and never had any problems.

I adjusted the clutch on my 2009 RKC without any problems last summer.

Today I noticed I had too much freeplay in the clutch and decided to adjust the clutch. I adjusted the clutch between 1/2 and 3/4 of a turn and adjusted the freeplay. Took the bike down the block and back and everything was good.

I decided to go on a beer run and after about a mile noticed too much freeplay and after another mile the clutch hit the handlebar and I had no clutch. I managed to limp the bike back home.

Right now I am letting the bike cool of and I will try and readjust the clutch but not sure if that is going to help?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Yup, either on the cable or on the clutch itself.
