does the lid and gasket look like it's seated correctly. I haven't paid much attention to them before. Something just didn't look correct to me.

It's like that on the opposite side too but the front and rear lid looks flush with the bottom if that makes sense.

Haha thanks for your help. I have a leak there and asking someone from experience if that looks correct.

Are you sure that you have the rubber in the proper orientation? I.E. not bassackward!

That is the way it came from the factory. I have not messed with it. It is leaking out of the vent hole on the lid.

I'd definitely take it off and have a look at it then.

I did that tonight. Cleaned everything really good with alchol and reinstalled. 2 finger tip tightened with a screwdriver because I have read that is very important with the seal.

There is not a vent hole on the lid. If you are referring to the indent on the lid where the gasket seats on, the gasket should have a tit that fits in the recess, might be backwards, or bad. If you are referring to the sight glass on top of the cover, that should be sealed, no vent no leak.
You bike has around 1k miles, take a ride to the dealer and let them check out your issues.

No not where the gasket is. There is indeed a hole on each side of the lid and my dealership says that's a vent pin size hole for air to escape. That is to allow air to pass through when using the brake lever. This will remove air so it won't have moisture in the reservoir.

SOA, Let me tell you about the brake reservoirs on my 17 RK. The sight glass is on the side. The gasket between the lid and the tank is just barely visible as a thin line where the cover meets the reservoir tank. My bike is so new that I haven't opened the reservoirs yet, but according to my service manual (and from experience with other bikes) the gasket has a bellows that move up and down with the brake fluid level. Above the gasket, and below the cover, is an air space which contains NO brake fluid. The bellows move mostly down as the brake pads wear, dropping the fluid level in the reservoir. The air space above the gasket/bellows is vented to the atmosphere through very small hole(s). There should be no fluid coming from the vents, because the gasket seals the fluid into the reservoir "tank". Theoretically, the gasket prevents the fluid from ever coming into contact with the atmosphere.

So make sure that the reservoir is filled as specified, before you add the gasket. The gasket should sit on top of the reservoir with no fluid on top of the gasket bellows. The cover then sits on top of the gasket, sealing in the fluid below the gasket, and sealing out air from the fluid.

Your reservoir is obviously somewhat different from mine. But I would be surprised if it doesn't work as I described. Good luck!

Dave
