Default Anyone have an XR1200?

I have a line on a 2009 XR1200X with 5,000 miles on it for about $6K. The bike has a couple grand in suspension mods, etc., and seems to be in great shape.

Does anyone have one, or know anything about them? It would just be a fun bike. Probably wouldn't get ridden all that much.

Thanks!

I had one for a spell, bone stock 09, not the X model tho. It was great in the corners, but missing the real top end a comparable Japanese model would have. Even less steam than a comparable Buell of equal era (even though they ****-canned Buell in 09). I suppose you could toss a top-end 1250 kit from Hammer into it for some real pep and be north of 100hp.

I enjoyed my '09. No, it wasn't the most powerful but it was fun to ride. I was excited to get it. It handled like a dream. The stock seat sucked. After one hundred miles, I had to get off, it hurt. My biggest gripe was the lack of a sixth gear. I constantly tried to shift up to a nonexistent gear. I bought it thinking I could ride with the local Harley crowd, that didn't work out at all.

Yea, I agree, kind of a lone wolf if you roll an XR.

The "X" model wasn't made until 2011. The only real upgrade was the adjustable suspension. The 2009's biggest issue is the corrosion in the main fuse panel.

Here is a great place for all the info you need........https://www.xr1200ownersgroup.com/site/forum.php

LOVE my '09. I have D&D pipes and Ohlins- The shocks made all the difference. The guys at the dealership like it too- funny with all the "real" harleys there, when I pull up the XR gets attention. Harkens to flattrack heritage.I was a never Harley guy- till I sawe this- I call it my unharley. Now I have two- liked it so much I got a Heritage softail. I ride it more than I thought I would- great for zipping around, not a touring bike for sure but comfy enough for a few hgours. Most had problems with the fuel tank swelling and popping the plastic cover- no real fix but it is what it is- I'm glad that didnt keep[ me from purchasing the bike.

Personally, I'd rather buy an XB12 of some type, with handlebars.

We have an ‘07 in our garage that’s technically our oldest son’s. Fun bike. Just a perfectly good Sportster motor wrapped in a functional nuetral frame. If you can enjoy it’s simple pleasures it’s pretty much perfect. No one is ever excited to see me pull up on it, but my grin is all mine to enjoy.

I had planned on buying one for a long time. They have a cult following. Kinda the odd man out around other Harleys... or sportsbikes. Good for something different, especially among the cafe crowd. Never really see them around, I've seen 2 in the past 4 years, one at a track, one at a dealer.

I always loved the look of the air intake on them.

For me personally I found it to be too small for my build, but I'm a big guy. Felt 'thin', couldn't touch the tank with my knees. I'd say it make an excellent fun bike and one you'd get a lot of questions on.
