I have a friend who is going to make a fire pit for me...we're going to cut the logo into the top of the sides.... we'd like to use the same logo from my tank
does anyone know of a good source for finding HD images or even more specifically, this image?
the Harley Davidson on my tank is the art I'm looking to use
The type of file you are looking for is called a 'vector file', a type of image file that can be scaled up or down without distortion. Beyond that I'm not sure, I also want to find some for making artwork and stuff. I've wondered if there are copyright issues for the trademark if you want to do something like laser-cut something with the bar and shield logo from a vector vile to make wall art, for instance. Is that a copyright violation if you just make one for yourself? I don't know who to ask. I haven't been able to find an official source for high-res vector files that you could buy for such purposes. Maybe they don't exist for that reason.
If you search google with keywords for what you want, and add "filetype:svg" to it, google will return results for only that filetype. Note you don't add the quotation marks, and there's no spaces.

no law against what I want and how I’ll use it...ty for the help
take a pic to an embroidery shop. they have the programs to produce vector files. that looks like a standard type font. shouldn’t cost more than $50 to get it “digitized”. i used to do that but dont have the software anymore.

Take a look at www.1001fonts.com and specifically at the "Handwriting Fonts". There are a few that closely resemble the font used in your tank. If I was doing something like this, I would install the font in my computer, type the name in a Word processing program or similar program (MS Paint) and use something like a 200 sized font until it was the right height. I would then make a stencil out of all the letters to make the design.
I do wonder if the design will be near the fire. If so, the heat may distort the design where the metal will be at its "narrowest" and maybe even break/melt it. Is your friend going to do it with a plasma cutter or a rotary tool such as a Dremel tool?

well use the rounded end of a retired bulk storage propane tank... 1/4” steel
As an enthusiast, it is a challenge to find truly high-res images that capture the power and chrome of these machines. When you see how a few photographers can take an otherwise simple photo of a motorcycle and transform it into a gallery-worthy masterpiece, you'll understand why trying to define fine art photography can give some clarity as to the emphasis on artistic vision and technical accuracy needed to achieve that level of quality. There is certainly a big difference between a quick snapshot and a professionally taken hi-res photo. Thanks for kicking off the thread, hopefully someone has a killer archive!
