I love perusing Craigslist, an endless source of entertainment.

 

See it all the time...Scammers. I report them so they go away.

 

Well ya know , Harleys are gold,and they get ya laid that alone is worth something...

 

I rarely even look at CL any more due to the scammers.

 

Facebook marketplace is just as bad or worse. Full of scammers and advertising. Sucks pretty hard, not in a good way.

 

Anybody that lets their money go in an obviously phony deal like that needs a lesson. Can we have a conversation about lowballers too? Some guy just offered me $75.00 for a 400 dollar gas engine pressure washer....

 

I recently sold a commercial mower on CL, to a teenage kid who runs a lawn mowing service. I met him halfway on his offer and we both walked away happy.

 

Around here, Craigslist charges $5.00 for each motorcycle ad, seems to have cut back on the scammers and false listings.

Just sold a motorcycle on Craigslist, had to list it twice but got my full asking price as the bike was in showroom condition with a few extras and there were not too many of that model & year. Was not a Harley though.

 

I have had good luck with CL haven't came across any crazy people yet, but there was one who was selling 4 tires, i offered them a few dollars less than what they asked which is standard im thinking haggling is what ya do,so the person complains,says "they are worth what im asking, but ok ..." and we agree to meet. I go to the meeting spot of their choice,and they never show up, no harm except wasted time and, if the guy would have stood firm on their price,i would have conceded and paid it, but they thought standing me up was a better idea so...Idiots!

 

Sounds like you DID meet a crazy person. I don't have time to tell of all the Oddballs I have come across on CL. I almost always ask for exactly what Is fair and write "firm" or "reasonable offers considered" in the ad. I still get low ballers, (usually 50% lower) and flippers. I ask if I asked them to sell me their car for half of what they thought it was worth, what they would think about my offer. In fact I always groan when I am thinking of utilizing CL because there is always a new story involving some dolt. But it's a necessary entity I suppose. I don't respond to 3rd party texts or messages, to eliminate scammers right off.
