Jacket for summer?

It's not only the road rash. The initial impact when coming off is what breaks bones, like elbows and shoulders.
I got to crash test a mesh jacket just last month. The mesh held up fine. I still got some road rash on my elbow, but it's not broken, and neither is my shoulder, even though there's some nice scraping on my leather vest at the shoulder.
The biggest shocker to me was my full face helmet. I know my head hit the pavement hard. But the scratches are on the right side of the face shield. That's where my face still is, thanks to the helmet. I am pretty certain I would have left it on the road, and with it, maybe even my life. My head hit really hard. Knocked me for a loop, even with the helmet on.
Harley is out of stock on most all of their mesh stuff. I cannot replace the jacket with another Harley branded one, but I will be getting another mesh, and another FF helmet, without a doubt. I also had some cortech riding boots on, the ones that look like tennis shoes. Although they got a little bloody from my hand, my feet are good, and they stayed put. My opinion? The gear saved my life, and also a lot of P&S had I survived.
At tempts above 96 degrees, the air passing over your body actually heats it up. That, along with direct sunlight, will heat you and dehydrate you. A mesh jacket helps you retain water on your skin, and actually keeps you cooler when you're moving. Wet it down a little, and it's going to feel like air conditioning in the summer. For my money, mesh jackets are worth their weight in gold. I have been wearing them since 2005, when I first started riding Buells. I throw a leather vest on over them, and am still way comfortable, and, I feel pretty well protected while riding.
Riding sane helps as well.

I love my mesh jacket. It’s counterintuitive, but it is cooler than nothing, because it blocks the infrared radiation. Unfortunately, Harley stopped making it. I prefer a White jacket over the current darker colors.
Bedouin’s Black works because it’s a thick fabric. White is better in a thin fabric. https://www.npr.org/2012/07/25/15730...l-more-or-less

I'll just leave these here, 40 mph side on the asphalt. Walked away and just had a sore elbow and shoulder the next day. It is your decision and your body.
Knee
Butt
Left Palm, leather with Kevlar lining, held up really well.
Right palm
Left Elbow, armor saved the skin and attenuated the shock of hitting the pavement

I have a few summer jackets I purchased over the years and I found perforated leather jackets to be more comfortable then synthetic mesh jackets. They are just as cool a synthetic when air is moving around the jacket and the they fit better for riding. If had had to, my really heavy all weather X-Element leather jacket would even be fine because it has vents all over it. I found that no jacket is comfortable in slow hot Oklahoma traffic, so it might as well the perforated leather.
I went to a local Riders Tune Up course ran by the Highway patrol and they gave out a lot of statistics. One statistic is that the front face averages 50% of all impacts because riders are generally moving forward at impact. That means when looking at impacts all over the whole helmet, odds are 50% in favor that your face will have impact. I have a buddy who is a Fireman and he said that when they get a call for motorcycle accidents, they assume neck injuries' with a FF helmets, severe face injuries with 3/4 and 1/2 helmets, and fatalities with no helmets.
I always were a FF helmet, but rarely with the face shield in the Oklahoma heat.

I have a leather jacket with big mesh vents I can open on the arms, back, side, and torso. It works pretty good until it gets upper 80's but I mostly wear my mesh jacket when it gets warm. For the last several years I wore a Harley mesh similar to the one Ron posted. I have been pretty happy with how it's cooler than no jacket, I was a skeptic before.
This year I have a new Milwaukee Leather mesh/leather trim jacket with rain and insulated zip out liners. So far I've worn it on a couple trips and think it will work for me in most conditions until Winter..
Here is the jacket I bought. https://milwaukeeleather.com/product...acket-liner-2/
