Default Buy a blacked out bike and paint it the color I want or buy the color and black it out?

I am looking at two used bikes one is blacked out but not the color I want, the other is the color I want but all chrome. I want the right color and blacked out. I am have no idea how much it would cost to repaint a bike or powder coat all the chrome parts. I would appreciate any advice on this minor dilemma.

cheapest way os to buy the black bike, sell the tins on ebay/craigslist/facebook and then spend a few hundred bucks and buy the color your looking for (or trade someone who has the color you want be they want black)

There's a whole list of people (like me) that don't really care what color my bike is, if you offered to swap and put a few bucks in my pocket I'd invite you over saturday for a tank swap party

By the blacked-out bike and have the tins painted to your preffence.

By the way, what the hell is wrong with chrome?

I like chrome, but if you want blacked out, buy that one and ride it while keeping an eye out for tins that you like. Then sell your old ones off.

I'd get the color you want and live w/ the chrome as you slowly replace parts as you go. Some of the chrome may grow on you anyway.

The third option is to keep looking for the bike you want in the right colour. The risk is it might take some time and you might not succeed.

It's too blingy (when there is too much of it) and takes too much time to look after it-polishing. Also, the chrome plating these days is not the same/as good as 30 years ago.

I just went through the process of getting a bunch of chrome parts powder coated gloss black. I gotta say, for me it was quite a pain in the ***. The powder coaters up in my area are slammed with commercial stuff that they probably make much better money on , AND it doesn't need to look as good as bike parts. I also looked into painting, and got some pretty high quotes for nothing too fancy. I'm talkin $3500-$4000. It remains to be seen how well the black pc holds up over chrome. It does scratch pretty easy . I used a guy who has 27 years experience. I still have a black and chrome bike, just not as much chrome as before.
