Do Metzeler Tires Run a Little Skinnier...
... than Dunlop tire? I am planning to jump to the Metzeler ME 880 Marathon Rear Tire size 170/60 VR-17from the stock which is a 170/70/VB-17. Someone told me that the ME 880 runs a bit narrower than the Dunlop. Anyone know if that's true?

i found out that it's indeed true with my sportster rear tire. originals are 150/80/16 but this site advises 160/80/16 and that is the tire i am getting.

yes, IMO,metz are generally about 1cm smaller. on my wg I went from a stock 130 dun to 150 metz; its tight in that fender well but no rubbing!

They shouldn't be any different. The sizing is an actual measurement. For example: a 150/80B16 means the tread width is 150mm, the sidewall height is 80% of the tread width (150 * .80 = 120mm) and the inner diameter is the rim diameter, in this case 16". All tires that are 150/80B16 will be the same size.
Now Metzeler (or any manufacturer for that matter) may recommend a different size than OEM, or may indicate that a larger tire can fit a stock rim, but that has nothing to do with the actual size of the tires themselves. For example, my stock front tire was a 80/90H21, but I put a 90/90H21 ME880 on the stock rim giving me a wider/taller tire on the front without having to modify anything else.
Cheers!

Metzler has had a size problem on some of their Brazilian made tires... as stated the size on the tire wall is the same for all mfgr's... however some of Metzlers tires say one size and actually measure out a size smaller.
