Well, I can't speak with 100% certainty on this, but I was at the Long Beach Motorcycle Show recently and I had heard that that Royal Enfield is no longer in business. I checked their website which is still up and running, so I can't really say for sure one way or the other.

Overall, I like the bikes. Nice classic looks. On the other hand, if I were looking to buy that type of a bike, I might lean more in the direction of a new Triumph Bonneville, where at least you know there are plenty of parts for here in the US.

I must admit, I do like those old Brit bikes.

Local dealer here sells them. Or at least has them for sale. Don't know if anyone is actually buying them. Salesman says they are built exactly as they were orignally. Same parts, same technology, same manufacturing process as back in the '50s or whenever these things were in their hayday. Agreed they are likely easy to maintain, but maintain you will. And probably often.

The other Captain that works at the fire stationhim and I areassigned to has a 2005 Royal Enfield ,I think it's called a Bullet,he loves it.I've ridden it once and didn't really care for it,to me it felt like I was riding a moped.

The British bikes back then leaked oil, had worse carbs, and unreliable electrics...but they sure were fun!! If you are mechanically inclined and like to tinker, and would enjoy owning a classic, go for it. I would research parts and maintence info as well.

I test rode a Bullet ('02 model, if I recall) a couple years ago in Kansas City. Dealer had it from a trade-in. I toyed with the idea of buying one just to have something unique to ride from time to time. Reminded me a lot of a BSA I had back in '73 or so. Made lots of noise and was kind of fun to ride. It would certainly be something I'd consider buying if I had a few $$ burning a hole in my pocket.
