Default Royal Purple 20w50 auto in all three holes?

I am about to change my oil with some Royal Purple 20w50 car/truck oil because I've read that the difference between the motorcycle oil and the regular stuff is tiny. Normally Royal Purple reccomends using its 20w50 motorcycle oil in all three holes, but I wonder if the same would stand true with thecar/truck oil. Iam just concerned about the primary and tranny. Anyone more educated than me have any ideas or experience? I already know that I'll get a bunch of people saying, "why not just buy the motorcycle stuff?" Please don't waste your time typing that. I just need to know if what I have will work. Thanks in advance for any help!

The only issue might be the friction modifiers used in the oil which could be problematic in the primary only....too slick for a HD design clutch. Other than that it all should be fine and I am just guessing on the primary issue. At 10k I switched to Redline which makes a synthetic for all three holes...each unique according to their ads. They make a 20/50 and a 20/60 for engines, a 20/50 for the primary with different friction modifiers and a tranny supershok syn. They too have been around for a long time and you can order on-line. Many indy shops carry Redline products. I use RP in bothmy truck and car with 200K on the truck and 130k on the car.

Still like that seat......

Why not use gear oil in the tranny? I use red ATF in the primary so I can tell if I'm leaking engine oil or primary fluid. 20w50 is good in the engine, though.

Thats my question also. I prefer a heavier lube over an oil for the tranny. Will it work in all 3 holes? Sure... In your bike....

FWIW, my dealer suggest HD Syn (or equal)in the motor & primary & Formula 1 oil in the tranny.

I have 4 bikes to pm. Read enough stuff on 3 sites over the last year then my whole life in school. Not an expert but DON'T do that. I used RP in the crankcase and its fine. Primary and transmission deserve different oil. RP makes a great gear oil. I used I believe a 15w40 no friction mods in the primary and woked perfect.

Okay, well I'm sticking to the auto 20w50 in the engine for the time being. I save $4 a quart that way. I'm going totry 85w140 gear oil in the tranny and am considering some Royal Purple ATF for the primary. I had Redline in the tranny, and it worked great, but I never noticed any improvement over the RP 20W50 Max Cycle I had in it before that. The Royal Purple products are just some of the easiest to come by and I know that they make good stuff.

I agree with Spike on cautioning against oils with friction modifiers, although the last time I said it people called me everything but a gentleman.
