Motorcycle Insurance Too High?

Motorcycle Insurance Too High?
Just curious what other people are paying. I called USAA for a quote on a 09 SG. They directed me to Progressive, apparently they don't cover motorcycles in NC. (who knew). For a daily driver w/ a $500. deductable and $4000. worth of accessories, they quoted me $984 a year. Now I have no moving violations and have had my license for 25yrs. Does this sound about right. I told them it would be a daily driver, but am now wondering should I have said it was for recreational riding and still drive it to work anyway. What do you ladies and gents do?

well I just bought an 09 heritage and I went with gieco I have full coverage with towing and a $500 deduct. I told them it was for rec but I do drive it to work on nice days and its $483/year and Im 26 with a clean driving record and good credit. I checked with progressive and it was over $800/year with them. Ive always used geico for motorcycle insurance because they were the cheapest and I had a buddy make a claim on his bike with them and it went smooth as silk. I would shop around if I were you.

I wouldnt tell them its a daily driver. In Texas, at least, the more miles you drive, the more they charge...
My '08 SG was quoted at about $790 per year... I think its expensive...

Shop around. I found as much as $600 difference on the same bike. I went with Progressive for just over $350 a year full coverage on an '07 Heritage. But Geico quoted $830 and eInsurance quoted $980. Funny thing is that AARP uses Progressive and the AARP quote was $200 higher than the regular Progressive quote. Had I not been shopping around I might have gone AARP just assuming it would be cheaper. It pays to shop, sometimes.

I too have USAA , they stopped covering bikes quite a while ago.... Then again they prolly weren't charging enough, even by thier low cost standards to others (when I was 18 I had full coverage on a new GS1100E that they charged me $146 evey 6 months ,1983... old 40 year old guys with other companies weree more 12-1800 a year) Thye steered me to progressive a couple years ago and since changed to gieco ...more coverage for 1/3 the cost!

I think rates will vary widely depending on what state you live in also. And then even vary by where you live within the state. Arizona is a state with high rates and I believe mine is about $800 a year with $500 ded, probably recreational, but a sky high PL & PD and otherwise full coverage.

You can call the insurance company and I'm sure they will tell you the same.
