Default tire pressure monitor - anybody use one

these are showing up on the market for motorcycles
an automated electronic tire pressure monitoring system
some doo hinkey gets put in the stem of the valve tightened down
then there is a display where you can set the high and low of the tire pressure
if the pressure is not within that range, then you get a flashing light and a beep

seems neat
but then again i am a gadget guy

cost appears to be like 150.00 and up

anybody have one

Yea seems neat, but $150 is a lil steep. I can do a lot of tire pressure checking for that price.

I cannot speak for the aftermarket ones, but my beemer has it as a factory option. I REALLY like it. Especially since I go on some really foul roads and once in awhile off road. Hasn't saved my butt yet, but it was nice to know it would warn me if the pressure started dropping.

Friend of mine has his emergency light come on because of the TPM. He pulled ovver and found a decent leak. It warned him before it got to any real handling issues.

A good gadget but yes, 150 is pricey. But it is functional and might just be something you'd put before the next cosmetic only farkle.

+1 Then again I have always been a stickler for tire pressure ever since I rode off one day and then realized I had a flat in the rear.

Tire pressure monitors have been standard equipment on all cars sold in the U.S. since the Federal law mandated it in 2007.

I said beemer not bimmer. Bimmer's may have them on all their vehicles, but on beemers - they are still options.

The one thing to remember - you can't do too much checking by hand while running 80 MPH on a highway.

I have them on my Yukon...I can check each individual tire pressure while driving. Saved me from having a flat on the 7 mile bridge while driving to Key West. I ran over an allen wrench and when the tire hit 20 lbs the alarm went off and told me which tire. Pulled over yanked the wrench out and put a temp plug in which got me to KW and Sears Auto for a high speed plug. Saved the tire and a whole lot of headaches. Still have the tire on the truck.
