Default Handlebar problem

A friend installed some 16 inch apes on his Street Bob last year and now since the bars were not knurled they slip easily. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to fix it.

I was thinking about using a hacksaw or grinder to put some small grooves in the bars to catch and keep them from slipping. Any ideas?

some people have used a piece of coke can cut and then placed around the bar so the riser grabs it. i know others that have used a thin piece of rubber to wrap it. either one should do the trick, of course assuming the obvious that you've tightened down the fasteners to spec. good luck and let us know how it works out.

A little emery cloth also works.

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try when I get his bike to my place.

Also a center punch used several times on the bars where the clamp goes works good.

I have used the center punch trick as wall as beer can (never have too many pop cans around). Tell your buddy if he wants the benifits of apes he will need to ride with out hanging on them so much. I love the crap out of my apes 20" but really had to learn to rely less on "hanging" on them. Do the math..1" bar with clamps, apply pressure 20" away from the fulcrum. There is a lot more pressure than you might think.
