Idle speed

Idle speed
I'm a new electra glide owner, an 09 ultra to be exact. it seems to me that the bike seems to idle high (2000 rpm) for an excessively long time when I first start the bike. It has been in the low 70's the past couple of days so I didn't think a long warm up was necessary. It doesn't calm down until it's gone a couple of miles. is this normal? I apologize if I'm asking a dumb question.

No not for a couple of miles. It should only idle at that rate for a few minutes at the most and settle to at least 1000 rpms to keep the oil flowing anything lower then 900 rpms is not good also.

I also have an 09' Ultra and it will do the normal idle up then down to warm idle, but if I stop and shut down then restart when warm it will idle up slightly then if I don't wait until it is fully warm it will idle up to 2000 rpm I am waiting until the 1000 mi service so the dealer can take care of it.

Doesn't sound right to me. Map or sensor problem. Dealer item without a SERT--good luck on satisfaction. I have a good family ran dealership near me. The only gripe I have with them is their service department. Only a couple of the mechanics are any good---the rest aren't qualified to do tire changes in my books.

its the throttle by wire gremlin....with the on off switch off and ignition switch off....
with the throttle at rest( hands off) cycle the ignition switch on and off 3 to 5 times. this will set the ecm to zero position for throttle...when you crank it up the idle will be lower.
always shut it down with hand off throttle and turn the ignition off before the on off switch (kill switch)..thats the cheap way. you can have a download with a patch that fixes the problem for extra bucks...

glad to hear it worked. i had the same problem last year and the service writer at the dealership told me what to do for it...
now thats the way i turn it off is with the ignition switch instead of the on/off switch and with the hand off the throttle....was hard to get used to at first.
