OK, this isn't something that happens all the time, but here is what is going on. Sometimes when I ride the bike, say to work, I will let it sit once I get there until lunch. When I go to lunch after starting the bike, it seems to idle pretty high. It seems like it stops only after I come to another interseaction and get it to a full stop and back down into first. I couldn't get it to replicate at the dealership....any ideas?
I had read on here that some of the 08s were doing something like this if they were shut down while giving some throttle input. I know I am not doing this
Just Bought a New 08 FLHT and it idles up around 2,000 RPM when first started after a slight warmup time slowly eases back to 1,000-1100 after taking down the road a mile or two don't believe in long idling periods here myself... 1-2 mins tops
Your problem is different from the '08's which required resetting to get back to normal idle. I have an '09 Ultra which seems to idle right at 1,000rpms even when cold although cold is a relative term as my bike is kept in a garage. I wonder if what you are experiencing is related more to the grip being too tight until you twist it a few times?
It doesn't sound like the idle problem on the 08s that several of us had. Like oldbagr said, mine you would have to reset the memory. Sometimes my bike would idle at 2000 rpms while trying to pull out of parking lots. i had to really be careful.

I had this problem with mine that started not long after I got the bike,'08 Ultra. I was at the HD Dealer after a poker run and I ran in to to talk with a Mechanic friend of mine. He said that he had heard of no problem, but cranked it up several times to this fast idle. He took it in and checked the down load for the stock bike, and said this one had one of the first down loads and there had been about 1/2 dozen more download improvements done for this bike. It took him about 5 minutes and he was through, did not charge me anything and told me to try it out. About 1500 miles later and I've had no more problems. Have them check it out. Good luck.
I had that problem on my 09 and they told me that I was shutting her down wrong.
The thing I was doing was shutting it down with the key first and not the kill switch.
