Road tech MP3 Player
Curious if anyone has tried interfacing the harley road tech mp3 player with any other amp device other than the Harmon radio or Road Tech radio?? I am trying to use the mp3 player with the J&M cb radio, aux in, but can only get audio on one side, not stero. I plug the unit into my Road Glide Harmon radio and stero is there. Has Harley some secret interface that only allows this device to work with their products? Any ideas would be appreciated. Also have checked the J&M device with another mp3 player and stero is there.
I dont think theres anything special about the Harmon. Its just technology continuing to advance. The newer cars have stereos that are MP3 compatible vs. my truck that still only plays cassettes. The J&M is probably a model based on older tech.
strange though, when I had it mounted on my road king which had the road tech radio, it outputted in stero, when I plug it into my road glide's harmon radio it outputs in stero, when I plug it into my wifes fatboy, which has the J&M system, I only get mono. I pin out the output from the player and only get output on one channel. almost like they (harley) have a unusual impedence for the connection.
Are you sure your cable is a stereo cable? There are two black rings around a stereo mini jack and only one on a mono jack. If it is a mono jack it may just be playing in mono through both speakers on your Road Glide, but only one channel on another unit.
The plug coming from the Road Tech is stero, three rings, and the J&M has three inputs Gd, right and left. I tried plugging an Ipod into the J&M and stero came through and like I said earlier, plugged the road tech into my road glide's harmon radio and got stero, just when I try interfacing the road tech to the J&M I get the one channel. I did find in some old articles that harley made the statement "only works with Harley products at this time", not sure what that means. Impedence issues???
