Yesterday's ride...
Mama is in Portland visiting Daughter, Son-In-Law and Grandchildren. Seventy five degrees, and "chores" done by 11AM. Off from Cartersville and to Canton, Cleveland, Helen, Blairsville, Tate, Jasper, Fairmount, Rydal and home. Bought the Deluxe on January 31 of '08 after 39 years of motorcycle non-ownership, and this is the first opportunity to "lonewolf" it through the North Georgia mountains.
"The Beastess" and I rolled out of town, and as soon as I hit the 2-lane to Canton, I could feel what many of you have already...and I knew my addiction was set as surely as my heart was beating. I felt freedom coupled to a sense of power that allowed me to define my destiny for this day at least. I felt palpably the concept of soul and spirit, manifested in the painted steel and sun reflecting chrome that makes "The Beastess" the transport to this nirvana she is. It was 5 hours of raw exposure to the sensory fulfillment of images and emotions that became an indelible part of me as much as any bone deep conviction.
I'll probably never duplicate yesterday's run in any way but the route, and will recall it in a memory that will bring a smile to my face and my heart as the memory of my first true High School love. But I will look forward to the next journey, sure in my belief it will bring with it even more clarity of why we love to ride.
Sorry for the ramble...
