My brother and I just did this on his 08 FXDC, we just undid the fuel quick disconnect, removed the front and rear tank bolts and raised the tank up to get at the turn signal plugs inside the frame. I had to take the plug pins out then re-assemble the plug after relocation. So you don't actually remove the tank just raise it up enough.

Watch your rocker tops if you do end up just sliding the tank back, the tabs at the bottom front of the tank will scratch the crap out of them.

Sounds like you're speaking from experience. You wouldn't happen to have some scratched rocker tips, would you?

I took my tank off so I wouldn't mess anything up. It wasn't that bad just made sure the tank was empty.

I took my tank off to have more room to find the connector in the frame. Now that I know where it is I could probably get by just by sliding it back some.
Removing the tank makes a REAL mess if you don't drain it first!
